A Primer of Christian Theology
Excerpt from Forward
...Theology is a term that literally means a discussion or discourse about God. Theology seeks to offer a coherent depiction of God as understood by the universal community of Christ. It is in short, the study of God by the people of God. In studying God we seek to gain as accurate a picture as possible. It is important for us to remember that God is not only the subject of theology but He is also the revealer and enabler of all theological undertakings. Only God can reveal God to humanity. As the Apostle Paul says, “For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words” (1 Corinthians 2:11-13). God reveals Himself through the work of the Spirit to those who have the Spirit but even before that, His revealing power is at work for all mankind: “since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them” (Romans 1:19).
